The village is famous for its Staithes School of Painting and the artistic heritage of the village is much in evidence.
Its cobbled streets and numerous winding, narrow alleyways meandering between the stone built cottages, and its sandy beach and rocky pools, make Staithes a unique and perfect holiday location. Situated in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park it has spectacular cliff-top footpaths, making it an excellent base for touring the North Yorkshire coastline, including Whitby (11 miles away); Robin Hood’s Bay and Scarborough. Travelling inland the visitor soon arrives in the Yorkshire Moors and ‘Heartbeat Country’ with its centre in Goathland, through which the North Yorkshire Moors steam railway passes. PREVIOUS
